Grayscale's Zcash fund sees inflows after three weeks of outflows

ZCSH collected approximately $41.1 million in net inflows for the week ended October 23. This rebound offsets some of the previous outflows, without erasing the fund's exposure to ZEC fluctuations.

A turnaround in collections

Grayscale's Zcash fund, listed under the symbol ZCSH, recorded approximately $41.1 million in net inflows during the week ended October 23, reports Crypto Briefing. The move interrupts three weeks of outflows. The period had, however, begun with a new day of outflows, followed by several positive sessions. The weekly balance therefore reflects a turnaround day by day. It is not enough to erase the capital withdrawn during the previous weeks nor to establish a definitive trend.

Positive net collection means that subscriptions exceed redemptions during the period considered. It does not indicate the identity of investors nor the reason for their decisions. It would therefore be excessive to attribute the contributions to pension funds or a particular institutional strategy without additional data. Daily tracking describes the movements of the product; analyzing motivations requires other elements. The amount collected can also be compared to the assets under management to appreciate its relative weight in the fund.

A vehicle exposed to ZEC

ZCSH provides access to a financial exposure to ZEC through a listed product. The holder buys shares of the fund rather than tokens to manage in their own portfolio. This organization delegates part of the operational tasks, but it does not make the value of the shares independent of the Zcash price. A drop in the underlying asset can reduce the value of the portfolio, even when new capital arrives. The product's fees also intervene in the result for the investor.

It is therefore necessary to distinguish the fund's return, its flows and its assets under management. The return describes the evolution of the value of an investment over a period. Flows follow the money brought in or taken out. Assets under management constitute a snapshot of the total value of the assets managed. They can increase thanks to subscriptions, a rise in ZEC or their combination. A variation in assets under management therefore does not, alone, allow calculating the collection. This distinction avoids presenting an injection of money as a realized profit.

A concentration to monitor

Crypto Briefing describes an important holding of ZEC within Grayscale's product. This concentration makes the evolution of creations and redemptions of shares interesting to understand the fund's place in its market. It does not mean that Grayscale controls the Zcash protocol nor the portfolios of other users. Holding tokens on behalf of a financial product and the governance of a network are two different subjects. The share of the supply held must also be dated and reported to the perimeter considered.

The contrast with other crypto funds lies in the observed flows, and not in a general protection of ZEC against declines. Bitcoin and ether products have different assets under management and markets; comparing only their gross amounts can mask these scale differences. The resumption of ZCSH subscriptions brings a signal specific to this vehicle. The following sessions will allow observing its continuity, while the ZEC price will continue to depend on trading and market conditions beyond the fund alone.
