Bitmine exceeds 6.04 million ETH: distinguishing accumulation from portfolio value
Bitmine reports acquiring another 12,535 ETH and holding 6,041,481 ether as of 18 October. Growth in token numbers is nevertheless insufficient to measure asset value or exposure per share.

A reserve that continues to grow
Bitmine continues buying ether. In its announcement dated 19 October 2026, the company reports acquiring 12,535 ETH during the previous week. It declares holdings of 6,041,481 ETH as of 18 October at 15:00 US Eastern time. According to its own calculations, this stock represents approximately 4.9% of the ether supply used in the document. These figures describe the position on that date and are not a real-time statement of the company's holdings.
The announcement values ether at $2,365 for its asset statement. It presents a total of $15.1 billion comprising cryptoassets, cash, marketable securities and certain investments. This amount therefore does not correspond solely to the ETH reserve. A week-to-week comparison must retain the same scope and identify the prices used. Otherwise, a market movement may be confused with a purchase, disposal or change in other portfolio components.
Holding more tokens does not determine their value
The quantity of ether and its dollar equivalent are two different measurements. At a constant quantity, a price change mechanically alters valuation. Conversely, a new purchase increases token numbers without guaranteeing growth in the portfolio's total value if the price falls between observations. Reading a crypto treasury company's announcements therefore requires separating asset movements, their accounting date and price assumptions. The fact that a company has accumulated additional units of an asset does not, on its own, establish the financial result that it has achieved over the period concerned.
Understanding the exposure represented by a shareholder's investment requires considering further elements beyond the overall number of tokens that the company reports in its reserve. The number of company securities, its obligations and other assets held enter the analysis. An increase in the overall reserve does not automatically establish an identical increase in ether per share. The share price is another distinct measurement, formed in its own market. The reserve announcement documents the declared portfolio; it does not provide a fixed relationship between the value of a share and that of an ether.
Staking adds an operational dimension
Bitmine states that 5,067,309 ETH were committed to staking as of 18 October. By committing these assets to staking, the company participates in the validation of the Ethereum network, an activity through which rewards may be obtained under the protocol's rules. It must not be confused with buying new tokens on the market. Revenue depends on protocol operation, validator availability and the arrangements of the providers used. Annualised projections presented by a company remain calculations based on assumptions; they do not prove that the same amounts will actually be received over an entire year.
Ethereum provides for penalties linked to validator behaviour and procedures for leaving staking. Holding ETH, committing it to validation and having it immediately available therefore answer different questions. Following Bitmine will require subsequent publications to reconcile declared holdings, rewards actually obtained and resources used for acquisitions. Management's objectives and comments must remain attributed to the company rather than being transformed into a certain market forecast or a promised return for shareholders.
