In Thailand, WORPT converts tourists' stablecoins into baht payments
The app links USDT and USDC to the Thai QR PromptPay network as part of the Tourist DigiPay experimental scheme. Merchants receive bahts; announced Visa cards are expected later.

A conversion before checkout
WORPT announces the availability of its app for international tourists in Thailand. The service allows users to deposit USDT or USDC, convert them into bahts, and pay via Thai QR PromptPay. According to the October 26 press release, merchants are settled in the local currency via existing circuits. They therefore do not receive the stablecoins used by the traveler directly at the start of the operation.
This processing chain distinguishes the holding of cryptoassets from commercial settlement. The amount available for purchases depends on the conversion and the service conditions. The reference to the dollar of the tokens does not mean that the amount received in bahts will be invariant. The exchange rate, any fees, and the modalities presented by the app remain the practical elements to examine before an operation, just like the compatibility of the chosen network for the deposit.
An experimental framework for visitors
The project was developed by Waan Exchange and Wipay. The former operates in digital assets; the latter provides electronic money services. The announcement situates their collaboration within the Tourist DigiPay experimental regulatory framework and indicates that Waan Exchange has received approval from the Thai SEC to participate. This scope concerns a service intended for foreign visitors, rather than a general authorization to pay directly in cryptocurrency throughout the country.
The press release describes identification procedures, transaction monitoring, and anti-money laundering measures. Integrating a journey into an app therefore does not eliminate the checks requested from users. Effective access depends on the admission and operating conditions applied by the operators. An availability announcement does not allow us to conclude that every shop displaying a QR code will accept all payment journeys, regardless of the framework actually supported.
Cards remain an announced step
WORPT is also preparing physical and virtual prepaid Visa cards. The communicated schedule provides for a physical card in mid-November 2026, followed by a virtual version at the beginning of 2027. These steps must be distinguished from the QR payment announced as available. In the long term, the goal is to share the same baht balance across different payment methods. The schedule describes a deployment project, not the immediate availability of all products.
The service thus illustrates the use of stablecoins as an entry point to local currency payments. Its adoption will be measured by actual usage, conversion conditions, and traveler experience. The presence of cited partners in a press release does not guarantee these results on its own. The concrete fact remains the link proposed between a stablecoin deposit, conversion into bahts, and a commercial settlement carried out in the Thai payment system.
