MetaMask adds Stellar by default to its mobile app and browser extension

The October 29 integration gives existing MetaMask accounts a Stellar address. Users can manage XLM, trustline assets, and Soroban tokens from their multichain account.

Stellar becomes part of the MetaMask account

MetaMask and the Stellar Development Foundation announced on October 29, 2026, that Stellar is now a default network in MetaMask Mobile and the browser extension. Presented at the Meridian conference in Lisbon, the integration was announced as available that day. It adds a non-Ethereum Virtual Machine network to a platform historically associated with that ecosystem. The change concerns asset access and management without requiring automatic movement of funds already held elsewhere.

According to the release, every MetaMask account now has a Stellar address derived from its existing recovery phrase. Creating that address does not mean a balance is automatically deposited. An account can gain a network capability without any assets being converted or transferred. Existing Stellar account holders can also import a compatible recovery phrase through the designated process. These remain distinct operations: creating an address, importing an account, and moving assets are different actions.

XLM and Stellar tokens join multichain management

The integration supports holding, sending, and receiving XLM, trustline assets, and Soroban tokens alongside assets on other networks. The release also discusses swaps between Stellar and supported networks. A multichain wallet combines access in one interface; it does not turn different blockchains into a single ledger. An address and asset must still be associated with the correct network to understand where funds are and which action is being requested.

The expansion accompanies MetaMask's Open Money strategy, combining holding, sending, spending, and trading. Stellar contributes a network built around payments and asset issuance. Its foundation emphasizes cross-border transfers and commerce. Network performance should nevertheless not be conflated with a complete payment journey: a blockchain transaction and a payout to a bank or cash location have different stages and conditions.

A default address simplifies access without removing choices

The main usability change is fewer steps to begin using Stellar from MetaMask. Users no longer need to seek a separate wallet for the announced integrated functions. This can facilitate discovery of the network and its assets, but does not recommend every available token. An asset appearing in an interface alone does not establish its issuer, redemption rights, or potential transfer restrictions.

The launch should be followed through functions actually provided in updated versions and connected payment journeys. The announcement does not make MetaMask a guarantor of every Stellar asset or turn a recovery phrase into information to disclose for activation. The new development is native, available integration in both applications, with an address linked to the existing account. It brings payment uses closer to multichain management while retaining each network's properties.
