Taurus extends custody and issuance tools to Stellar smart contracts

The Swiss company announces live support in Taurus-PROTECT and Taurus-CAPITAL. The expansion covers programmable tokens and tokenized assets beyond Stellar's initial 2024 integration.

Stellar contracts enter two institutional platforms

Taurus announced live support for Stellar smart-contract assets in Taurus-PROTECT and Taurus-CAPITAL on October 29, 2026. The former provides institutional custody; the latter supports issuance and management of tokenized assets. Banks and institutions can use these functions through Taurus interfaces or APIs. The announcement concerns a technical expansion presented as open to clients, not a claim that every customer institution has launched a new financial product.

Taurus made both platforms available on Stellar in 2024. The new development therefore concerns the smart-contract environment and additional token models rather than its first arrival on the network. This chronology avoids conflating blockchain support with support for every asset form that can be created there. A provider can custody some native assets before enabling more complex programmable-contract operations with functions and controls suited to their lifecycle.

Custody and issuance administration remain separate activities

Taurus-PROTECT is to let clients custody and manage these tokens using its wallet, governance, and operational controls. An institution needs more than an address able to receive an asset: it must define who can initiate an operation, who must approve it, and how to track movements. The integration aims to retain that framework when a client uses a programmable Stellar asset rather than rebuild controls for every network.

Taurus-CAPITAL covers issuance and administration, including function calls and contract parameters. The announcement identifies SEP-41 tokens, Stellar Asset Contracts, and ERC-3643-derived structures for regulated Stellar use cases, also associated with SEP-57. These references describe several technical models rather than one financial instrument. Terms of a security, fund, or other tokenized asset still depend on legal structure and how its rules are implemented in the contract.

Institutions can choose more specific structures

The platform also envisages issuer-specific contracts and other real-world-asset structures. This flexibility can support securities and funds with particular transfer conditions. It does not turn a technical compliance model into general marketing authorization. A contract may enforce holding or transfer restrictions while belonging to a product that must still satisfy its own obligations. Code controls and financial-product regulation therefore need separate assessment.

For institutions already equipped, the intended benefit is broader assets without replacing the entire custody and issuance infrastructure. Progress should be measured through assets actually supported and client operations rather than simply the number of models named. The new development is live extension to Stellar contracts in both Taurus tools. It builds on the 2024 foundation and opens more configurations without announcing identical adoption by every bank or guaranteed liquidity for issued assets.
