Standard Chartered announces tokenized deposits for corporate clients in Hong Kong
On November 2, the bank presented a treasury solution using Ensemble TX for round-the-clock interbank settlement. It cites live transactions involving China AMC, Finloop, and PantherTrade.

An offering for corporate treasury workflows
Standard Chartered announced a tokenized deposit solution for corporate clients in Hong Kong on November 2, 2026. According to its release, the offering is intended for treasury, liquidity, and investment activities, including transactions within a group and between participating banks. The announcement concerns a banking offering and identified client uses. It is distinct from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s general presentation of Ensemble TX, the settlement infrastructure on which the bank relies.
The solution uses Standard Chartered’s proprietary blockchain infrastructure. The bank describes the deposits as regulated bank deposits usable in programmable digital workflows, including intragroup liquidity management. The release targets eligible clients, corporate treasurers, banks, investment platforms, and digital asset businesses. It does not describe unrestricted retail access or a new cryptocurrency available to everyone. Commercial terms and detailed eligibility criteria are not specified in this announcement.
Ensemble TX connects to interbank settlement
Development was supported by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s supervisory incubator for distributed ledger technology. Through Ensemble TX, tokenized deposits can be transferred in real time across participating banks, with interbank settlement in central bank money, including wholesale central bank digital currency. Availability is described as twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. This scope concerns the participating network and does not mean every international bank transfer already has those capabilities.
Standard Chartered highlights efficiency, interoperability, and settlement predictability, as well as reduced counterparty risk as value moves between institutions. These benefits are presented by the bank; the release provides no quantified comparison of costs, timing, or residual risks. Nor does it publish an aggregate transaction amount. Central bank money settlement and the commercial bank deposit used by the client are distinct components of the described arrangement.
Live transactions cited, partnerships still to develop
The bank says China AMC, Finloop, and PantherTrade are already executing tokenized deposit transactions and settling tokenized money market funds through Ensemble TX. It also announces a partnership with Fireblocks to embed banking capabilities in that platform and offer access to its digital asset client ecosystem. HashKey is joining the ecosystem as well. These collaborations do not establish that every planned integration is already available in every commercial situation.
Mary Huen, Standard Chartered’s chief executive for Hong Kong, Greater China, and North Asia, highlights the program’s early real-value uses. Ole Matthiessen, global head of transaction services and digital assets, emphasizes moving liquidity between institutions and markets. The bank plans to expand the solution gradually into other markets, without a detailed timetable. Confirmed deployments, access terms, and documented volumes are the next developments to follow, rather than worldwide availability inferred from this Hong Kong launch.
