Airtm Connect is to link wallets with merchants

Airtm and BVNK announced a partnership on October 29, 2026, to develop payments directly from wallets in emerging markets. Presented at Stellar's Meridian conference in Lisbon, the project uses Airtm Connect, linking Airtm's user network with digital-asset companies. Users are to be able to deploy wallet balances at participating merchants enabled by BVNK, alongside new funding and receiving routes.

The release schedules the start of rollout in the fourth quarter of 2026. That is not a precise opening date for every country. Presenting the entire network as already available to everyone would therefore be premature. The partnership describes expanded capabilities and a launch window. Countries, merchants, and funding methods actually accessible will need confirmation in service terms, particularly where multiple banking routes and local currencies are involved.

Stellar links a more complete payment journey

The integration is to use Stellar, recently added to BVNK's platform according to the announcement. Airtm contributes its distribution and last-mile service network in emerging markets; BVNK contributes stablecoin payment infrastructure and banking connections. The combination targets continuity between money arriving and being used. Receiving a stablecoin in a wallet and spending it at a merchant are separate functions that the partners seek to connect more directly.

Airtm is to retain its user relationship while using its partner's technical components. BVNK, described in the release as a Mastercard company, also provides access to the group's Global Money Platform infrastructure. This does not mean every payment automatically becomes a Mastercard card transaction. Different layers can support funding, accounts, or money movement; their place in the architecture should not be turned into a uniform description of every transaction.

Corridors and local terms remain decisive

The project targets markets with fragmented banking access, currencies, and liquidity sources. A common wallet experience can therefore rely on different routes depending on the origin and destination of funds. The partners emphasize reducing separate provider connections. Integration can simplify platform work but does not remove required checks or local restrictions defining which users and operations can be served.

Airtm says BVNK complements existing partners rather than replacing them with one mandatory infrastructure. This diversity can offer multiple funding and payment routes if their operation is clearly explained. Useful follow-up will concern initial countries and merchants, announced costs, and treatment of incomplete or refunded transactions. The October 29 announcement describes a concrete payment partnership to deploy; it does not yet demonstrate universal availability or disappearance of every user transfer fee.
