Euro stablecoins on Solana: EURC pre-minting puts a $22 million increase in perspective

The weekly progression relayed by Token Terminal does not necessarily correspond to tokens already usable. A Circle technical reserve appears to explain the essential part of the observed movement.

An increase in recorded supply

The supply of euro-backed stablecoins recorded on Solana progressed by approximately $22 million over the week ended October 25, according to Token Terminal data relayed by the Journal du Coin. The ranking places the network ahead of the other chains followed during this period. But this indicator must be read according to its definition: the creation of tokens on a blockchain does not always mean their immediate availability to users.

The figure is expressed in dollars to compare amounts, while the tokens concerned are euro-backed. It must therefore not be confused with the converted value for an identical quantity of issued units. The progression of a technical supply also answers another question than that of payments or exchanges made. A weekly ranking can make visible a preparation operation without demonstrating an equivalent influx of new users.

The possible role of a Circle reserve

The Journal du Coin links this increase to an EURC pre-issuance address announced by Circle to accompany its Gateway service on Solana. The tokens present in this reserve exist technically, but remain excluded from the circulating supply according to explanations reported by the issuer. The cited statement reports approximately $20 million of EURC at this address. The amount and the calendar suggest that this operation explains the essential part of the observed movement.

This concordance must remain presented as an explanation of the statement, without making the press release say an amount it does not give itself. The pre-issuance prepares tokens destined to be distributed according to the functioning of the service. When they leave the technical reserve to join users, their circulation can increase without new creation of the same number of tokens. Total supply, pre-issuance reserve and circulating supply therefore constitute different categories.

Usage is measured after technical preparation

The development of a cross-chain service can facilitate access to a stablecoin. It is not enough to establish the frequency of payments, the depth of liquidity or the number of clients. These dimensions require other statements, with comparable scopes and dates. A same increase in supply can thus receive different interpretations depending on whether the counter includes technical reserves or only tokens available to the market.

The prudent reading of the weekly figure consists in following the quantity actually distributed and the operations resulting from it. It avoids presenting an infrastructure preparation as already demonstrated adoption. The progression relayed for Solana remains an interesting accounting fact, but it does not allow concluding to an identical increase in euro purchases or commercial payments. The next useful indicator will be the evolution of circulation and uses, beyond the sole initial issuance.
