STRC buybacks: what Strategy actually bought for nearly $205 million
The October 26 filing describes buybacks of the company’s own preferred shares, funded through USD Cash. Strategy neither bought nor sold bitcoin during the week and distinguishes that cash pool from its USD Reserve.

Preferred Shares, Not an External Portfolio
Strategy repurchased 2,068,459 STRC preferred shares for $204.9 million between October 19 and 25, according to its October 26 regulatory filing. STRC denotes a class of shares issued by Strategy itself. The operation therefore does not correspond to the purchase of shares of a third-party company nor to the acquisition of cryptoassets. It falls under the company's capital management and financing instruments.
The filing describes STRC as a perpetual preferred share with a variable dividend. This security must be distinguished from the ordinary share MSTR and the bitcoin held in cash. The rights and associated risks depend on the class of security concerned. Simply stating that Strategy is strengthening a share portfolio would erase the nature of the operation: the issuer is using liquidities to repurchase its own shares, within the framework of the planned program.
Two Distinct Cash Envelopes
The financing comes from the USD Cash envelope. Strategy indicates a balance of $242.4 million for this pocket as of October 25. It distinguishes this from its USD Reserve, which stands at $4.83 billion and aims to support the payment of preferred dividends and debt interest. The two amounts must not be merged into a single reserve where all uses would be identical.
The distinction helps read movements without attributing an invented purpose to them. USD Cash can serve various capital management uses, whereas the USD Reserve is presented with a specific financial objective. The filing documents the envelope mobilized for the repurchase; it does not, on its own, provide a liquidity forecast for all future quarters. Commitments, future flows, and financing decisions remain necessary to assess this evolution.
Bitcoin Stock Remains Unchanged for the Week
Strategy specifies that it neither bought nor sold bitcoin during the period considered. The company holds approximately 848,517 BTC as of October 25. The repurchase of STRC therefore does not increase the number of bitcoins in cash. It may modify the structure of securities and commitments around this cash, which is another dimension of the analysis. Confusing these two movements would give an inaccurate picture of the allocation realized during the week.
The filing is also insufficient to establish a single cause for the pause in purchases, nor a resumption date. A monetary meeting or a market movement can be part of the context without being an officially announced motive by the company. Reading the document leads to three precise observations: STRC were repurchased, USD Cash financed this operation, and the bitcoin stock remained unchanged. Future publications will allow following the continuation of these choices.
